ThinkGenetic was created by a consortium of organizations driven by the desire to improve the lives of those living with a genetic disease.
Our story begins with ThinkGenetic, Inc. co-founder, Dave Jacob. Living with a genetic disease and undergoing invasive heart surgery as a child, his interest peaked upon hearing that long-time technology partner, IBM, was allowing select partners to pitch their ideas for commercial uses of their Watson. Dave reached out to his daughter Dawn Laney, an instructor, genetic counselor, Director of the Emory Genetic Clinical Trial Center and LSDC Program Leader at Emory University’s Department of Human Genetics, to see if the School of Medicine would be interested in partnering to create a Watson-powered application to serve the genetic disease community. Emory said “Yes!” and ThinkGenetic was born.
350 million people worldwide are living with one of over 7,000 genetic diseases so training Watson on these diseases and reaching those in need requires a team of experts with a shared passion for genetics and improving healthcare. In order to provide the best possible information and experience to users, ThinkGenetic is reaching out to genetic specialists, healthcare providers, treatment centers, patients as well as the pharmaceutical companies with a goal of going live in 2016.
